British American Tobacco (BAT) is transnational tobacco company that has a joint venture with I.M.U Enterprise Ltd (IMU), which is part of Sein Wut Hmon Group, one of the leading local conglomerates in Myanmar, to distribute and market its brands. The joint venture company has completed in 2013. However, latest informal information indicates BAT took full 100% share as per latest Foreign Investment Law. (ref: Sein, T. (2015). Myanmar Japan Tobacco (MJT) is a company incorporated in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar since 2012. MJT produces the internationally known brands of cigarettes, Mevius (formerly known as Mild Seven) and Winston, for the Myanmar domestic market and also exports its products within the Asia Pacific region. Rothmans of Pall Mall Myanmar has 40% of TI market share in Myanmar in 2016. In 2003, British American Tobacco (BAT) sold its share of Rothmans of Pall Mall Myanmar (RPMM) to Singapore’s Distinction Investment Holdings (ref: Mclaughlin T. (2013).
